Frequently Asked Questions

About AIDSspace

  • What is AIDSspace?
AIDSspace is an online community for connecting people, sharing knowledge, and accessing services for the 33.4 million people living with HIV and the millions who are part of the response. AIDSspace went live in beta form in October 2009.
  • Who is behind AIDSspace?
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is the founding partner of AIDSspace. If you, or an organization you know of, are interested in partnering or supporting AIDSspace, let us know.
  • What can I do on AIDSspace?
    Through AIDSspace you can:

    * Meet and connect with other members to learn from their work, exchange ideas and discover new networks.

    * Post and share key policies, case studies, best practices, multimedia materials, conference posters, reports and other essential resources.

    * Find and post jobs, consultancies, requests for proposals, and reviews on service providers.

AIDSspace is free to use. All you need is an email address. Get started today.
  • How can AIDSspace support the global AIDS response?
AIDSspace aims to expand informal and established networks to include more people interested in HIV and help everyone engaged maximize resources for a stronger AIDS response. The premise behind AIDSspace is simple: If hundreds of millions of people can connect on some of the most popular social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube) to chat, share content, and keep on top of what’s happening, so can the AIDS and development communities.
  • Give me an example of the value of AIDSspace?
Think of AIDSspace as an empty house that’s fully functional but not yet a 'home'. It is up to AIDSspace members to make the site what they want it to be. In other words, the value of AIDSspace is defined by the individuals and organizations that use it to connect and share ideas and knowledge. But here are a couple of scenarios of AIDSspace in action:

    * A small organisation lacks the resources to have its own web site. They create a Group page on AIDSspace. The page acts as a convening place where discussions take place and information and content are fed to members. One immediate benefit of a connected community is the sharing of information and knowledge in a viral approach to get information more quickly to people who need it.

    * An HIV outreach worker has a prevention toolkit she uses in her daily activities. She has modified the toolkit to reflect the HIV epidemic in her community. Knowing there are others doing similar activities elsewhere in the world, she uploads the toolkit to her AIDSspace Profile and posts it in the AIDSspace Library. Through this simple act, she has shared her knowledge and given others the ability to learn from her experiences.
  • How can AIDSspace members protect their privacy?
AIDSspace has a number of privacy features that are customisable. Members have complete control over their profile. View the full privacy policy to find out more.
